Workplace Wellness with a Difference: Empowering Your Team for Life
Background
Wellness is a catch-all phrase at the moment and providing workplace wellness was growing pre-Covid, but since then it has grown more due to a range of factors. . It has remained, in the main, accessible to larger organisations who have the budget to implement a scheme, the time for staff to run a scheme for for it to be monitored (with our without an external consultant).
There are smaller schemes for medium businesses and small businesses, who need something more tailored. Smaller schemes are still based on some form of discounted gym/health access, access to an app and maybe some literature of in house workshop being run.
Issue
A lot of these schemes, especially access to counselling services (phone or an in-house paid therapist), are wide spread access and financially out of reach to a large number of small businesses.
At work, a lot of people are not going to have mental health or wellness addressed by going to a gym or accessing an app – although these things have their place. They have issues at home, stress at work, self esteem issues or relationship struggles. They need something else.
There is a need for a platform that combines the following – and ours does:
1. Mental health support along with wellness training. Overcoming stress, resilience to anxiety, learning to relax, improve sleep and more.
Ours provides this, first hand training to help find alleviation, programming against it happening again and training for a healthier stronger mindset. Something that can be done as a new lifestyle or dipped in and out when needing ‘treatment’. If you team need a stress detox or a 3-week course of deep relaxation – they can find it within.
2. Lifestyle training, coaching and teaching. Diet, fitness and exercise coaching, body confidence, life goal planning, overcoming procrastination and alike.
In our workplace wellness platform, we also have a wider health and wellness club behind it, all members of the workplace wellness platform have access to the wellness club, with all – and more – of the activities listed above (linked in through the platform). They can get a seamless access to the wider wellness provision whilst going back to their workplace reception area.
3. Personal development encouragement. Setting learning goals and how to learn effectively, develop creativity, access happiness and gratitude/grounding, setting boundaries and taking control and similar.
A true investment blends wellness and personal development; when you can help someone become more fulfilled as an individual; they not only gain more loyalty, and this feeds back into work as new skills are brought into the workplace. However, first and foremost, it’s an investment into them and it is integrated in with a workplace wellness scheme – so it combines to the best of both benefits (employer/employee).
4. Workplace training skills. Overcoming conflict, effective communication, problem solving, planning workloads and supporting new initiatives.
This provides access to a workplace training scheme as well as a wellness scheme. By getting this scheme your staff get both benefits – and – we can also be-spoke some of the training to any specific situations your workplace is facing.
5. Workshops & webinars. With trainers, coaches and teachers who focus on workplace issues to do with both staff, staff retention, work efficiency, new ways of working. Exposing your workforce to new 3rd party teaching and networking with other companies attending the same event and learning cooperative skills to learn, overcome and venture up.
Access to workshops, webinars and events can open avenues that can unlock opportunities. We work with coaches who can bring these about and deliver them to all companies on the workplace wellness scheme and bring a shared learning experience. It’s one of the few things done that is done with others at the same time and gives an energy that has an immediate impact.
6. Community activity. Workplace environments need team competitions, challenges or other events to provide healthy competitions, a fun activity but set within a context that benefits them as humans as also at their place of work.
The need to engage the workforce with a singular challenge, training course or small event that is focused on your company needs, activity with an outcome (prize, reward of acknowledgement) can bring about a workforce more engaged. A bit like the ‘team building’ but done in a different way that can help engage those who are more reticent about joining in group activities.
7. Feeback loops. Within a wellness platform, staff can have anonymity, but how does that feedback to workplace managers? With a good scheme you can get feedback loops, outside of any work scheme you have; offering you the opportunity to reflect and take measures as necessary.
Our scheme provides Q&As, plus questionnaires after events and challenges, so we can feedback any events that impact upon work, work issues, training requirements or effectiveness of welfare provision. This can be done with anonymity to encourage involvement.
8. Bespoke tailoring. A good scheme can provide you with a bespoke access area. An area that is branded your own organisation, so when members sign up and enter; it carries your work identity and reinforces the provision you have made for them.
Our scheme can provide, for those who want a bespoke package, a unique login area that represents the company identity and brand. The home page they log into will carry your logo, colour and identity (not 100% to your website, but a hybrid so they know it’s a separate wellness scheme but a workplace one provided by you). This can then have 2 main benefits in:
a. It can have tailored messages to the team about events at work that are going to provide a challenge (relocation, change in direction, new technology etc); and they can find out how they can get support depending upon how they feel challenged.
b. If you have issues at work with staff cooperation, workforce retention, sedentary working practices or similar; we can put some primary training, tailored on our main training, in that area. Your team will see it first and we will make it a priority viewing and work with you on encouraging others to go through it with the aim of gradually addressing issues.
9. EAP Workplace Benefits. I have heard a few seminars and discussions by industry leaders in HR disussing workplace challenges, the main contentions are all similar though.. Holiday, overtime, flexi-hours, WFH, exchange schemes, regular work reviews, growth opportunities and access to line managers to deal with issues.
Our scheme is not focused on providing a ‘consultant’ who would come into your workplace, examine your structures, workflows and look at how you can implement schemes that can start to address issues – within the limitations of your operations and type of work.
Our focus is on the mental health and wellness outcomes; however, we are happy to work alongside a consultant, if you have a bespoke package. We can help you appoint someone and work with them in the implementation, on assessing any impacts on stress points or anxieties and putting up support structures in your staff portal and communicating this to them in a way to create positive outcomes.
10. Business opportunities. Especially for small business, networking events, growth opportunities, access to new markets are not easy for owners who are working hard on keeping their business going.
Our focus, after workshops and webinars is threefold:
1. Some webinars will be aimed at business leaders and key staff; the structure of which will be challenges for key staff and networking with people in a similar role/position. This can be with the aim of sharing problems with possible attendees able to provide solutions!
2. Some webinars will be aimed at more of the wider business staff; but there will be an opportunity for businesses to present what they do and how they help overcome issues (that the guest speaker has raised and given a chance of feedback for).
3. After an event we will make recordings available to key staff (so they can review opportunities), along with the names of other business attendees (for certain events) whom they can contact after.
Not only will your staff get the teaching of the workshops and webinars (as announced in point 5; but it gives you the opportunity for your own business to network with others.
Like an EAP your staff get access to training, tips and access to some health provision; but this goes far more and combines the dynamics of their personal lifestyle, wellness, your work requirements and company direction in a unique way.
